Real Work at Home Jobs

Are there real work at home jobs? Yes there are some, but, they are not nearly as plentiful as you would think considering the amount of interest there is in working from home. They are also difficult to find.

Finding work at home employment isn't easy. Despite all the online advertising you see, there aren't that many legimate work at home jobs. In fact, there are more scams than real work from home opportunities. Here's how to find work at home employment, research work at home opportunities to make sure they are legitimate and avoid scams.

Work at Home Job Listings

There are companies that hire for work from home jobs and you can find work at home job listings online. Job seekers who are interested in home employment need to spend a good deal of time searching for legitimate opportunities, as well as a significant amount of time weeding through scams.

Getting Started Working at Home

Many people who work from home started out working in an office, but, were able to arrange with their employer to work some or all of time at home. I have an acquaintance who relocated to Washington, DC. Her employer decided to enable her to work from home, rather than losing a valuable employee. I have another acquaintance who works part-time from the office and part-time from home in order to accommodate her child's school schedules. My sister-in-law schedules home nursing care visits from home. In those cases, employees, who had already proven themselves to be valuable to their employer, were able to negotiate flexible work schedules.

Companies That Hire Work From Home Employees

There are companies that hire employees directly to work from their homes. Check the sites that list work at home jobs. Some of these positions are those where you cover a territory, for an insurance company or a consumer products firm, for example, and spend some time on the road and some time in your home office. There are also customer service, recruiting, sales, scheduling, technical, writing, and telemarketing jobs available. In many cases, the jobs are part-time, commission-based, or pay a lump sum for a completed project.

In other cases, you can work as a home based agent where you are an employee of the company who works from a home office, providing customer service to client companies. Virtual assistants provide administrative, secretarial, and clerical support, as well as creative and/or technical services for clients.

Work at home transcriptionists are usually independent contractors who transcribe and edit recorded reports onto their home computer. Online tutors work for internet based companies that offer help, within a variety of subject areas, to students of all ages.

If you're looking to make a little extra money, paid surveys are a possibility, but do be careful about avoiding scams.

Full-time jobs that provide health insurance, a pension, vacation, and other benefits while you work full-time from home, especially if you don't have experience, are few and far between. Finding them online is a little like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Be Flexible

Flexibility is one key to successfully working from home. If you are willing to consider freelance or contract employment or willing to combine a couple of part-time positions, you'll have a greater chance of success in finding opportunities that are legitimate. It's also critically important to take the time to search for positions and to thoroughly research those that sound viable.

Articles.

PLR articles are typically sold in packages of anywhere from 5 to 20 articles. Usually the articles are all on the same topic, but sometimes variety packs are offered. Articles are usually between 300 and 800 words in length and delivered as text files, Word documents, or both. They can be used individually as website or blog content or combined into a special report or ebook.

Special Reports and Ebooks.

A special report is essentially a long article on one topic. It can be anywhere from about 8 pages to 20 or 25 pages long. The report is usually delivered as a Word document or text file. Sometimes it's just the report, but other packages include a cover graphic and other supporting materials such as a sales page copy, thank you page, autoresponder messages, and articles.

Ebooks can be as short as 25 or 30 pages, but are usually about 40 pages and go up from there. The content in an ebook is often divided into chapters, with a table of contents. Ebooks often include a cover graphic and are usually delivered as a Word document. Like special reports they can sometimes include other supporting materials.

Special reports and ebooks are often sold or given away as one piece of content, but depending on the license, they can usually be broken up into articles or an email series.

Autoresponder Messages or Ecourses.

These packages are intended to be used as an email series and include 5 to 10 messages on one topic. Typically the messages are delivered as text files and include no graphics or other materials.

Comparison Charts.

These charts compare the features of popular products or services. I only know of one source for these and each package includes multiple, related charts which can be used individually or bundled into a special report.

How-to Reports.

How-to reports can be as short as one page and usually aren't more than a few pages long. They are step-by-step instructions for completing a task such as installing a blog plugin or repairing a window screen. Screenshots or pictures may be included.

Product Reviews.

These articles rate and review the pros and cons of products and services. Some may include screenshots and images. They are particularly suited for use as affiliate marketing content with your own affiliate links added to the review.

Video.

With the popularity of video and with editing tools being more accessible to the average Internet user, video PLR services have emerged. Editing video for uniqueness and branding is more challenging than editing text PLR, but is possible. Most PLR videos are how-to or tutorials on business tools and Internet marketing.

WordPress Plugins.

Just this month I was introduced to a WordPress plugin PLR package which includes the plugin, a sales letter, and an installation manual. Of course most of us wouldn't know how to customize the plugin so the only editing and personalization would be the sales letter.

I've personally purchased and used most of these types of PLR. One of the many reasons why using PLR is good for my business is because it helps with one of the biggest challenges I face – finding the time to get everything done. Choosing professional PLR articles and products assures quality and helps me make more time for other business tasks.

PLR is an affordable content tool that is now available in a variety of formats for website and blog content, infoproducts to sell or give away, and many other uses.

Private Label Rights (PLR) Content – More Than Articles and Ebooks

While Google’s Panda update has many different aspects, one thing is certain: Google is looking for signals of trust, authority, and real branding. They are looking for signals that thin content mfa sites and thin content affiliates will have a hard time building. If you are a website or business owner, what are some thing you can do to send these signals to Google? In this post I’ll give you a few ideas.

Speaking

Public speaking is a huge step in showing Google that you are a trusted and authoritative source on the web with nothing to hide. How does Google know you are speaking? They see your business name and domain on the web. It doesn’t matter if you are speaking at your local library, chamber of commerce, lions club, seminar at a community college, or industry conference. All of these events will have a page where they list who is speaking. Now, hopefully these pages will give you a link but, even if they don’t, just a citation of your domain counts in my opinion. Now you do have to balance and justify the time spent preparing, traveling, and speaking, but if you do this regularly, the value adds up over time.

Help a Reporter Out

Hopefully you have heard of HARO (help a reporter out). It’s a daily email list of reporters looking for industry experts to quote or interview for stories they are working on. You probably aren’t going to come across any requests from New York Times or Wall Street Journal reporters, but small- to medium-sized regional, industry specific journals, magazines, newspapers, or websites still have value. Again, getting a link is ideal, but even a citation of your business name and URL is IMHO a good thing

Blogger linkup

Blogger linkup is another daily email newsletter. Every day, an email goes out of blogs looking for guest posts and bloggers with guest posts looking for websites to accept them. Now, I will be honest, this can be a bit hit or miss as some of the sites are a bit dodgy and on the MFA side of the tracks, so take a look before committing to anything. Try to think outside of the box here. If you run a travel website and see a request for guest articles on a healthy eating website, write an article on eating healthy while traveling. Some of the biggest mistakes I see with guest articles is re-using the same bio box over and over and creating an unnatural focus of inbound anchor text. Don’t go there, ok?

Educational links

Let’s get one thing clear–links from a .edu website aren’t worth more because they are on an .edu TLD. They are worth more because, generally speaking, .edu websites have more trust than other websites. Wordstream published an excellent post on creating science projects and giving them away for schools and libraries to use. If you want links from .edu websites, create content that .edu websites would find valuable. Hire a premium research style writer and produce content that is considered valuable by professors, teachers, or expert content curators. Put this content on a different template than your normal content, strip out the ads, strip out the commercial links, and strive to make this content as encyclopedic as possible. Here’s a bonus tip: create content and release it into creative commons. Put it in a PDF that anyone can download, build upon, and re-use as long as they credit you. Try to embed a link to your website in the footer of the document, or at the bare minimum have your URL listed in the document.

Press Releases

Hopefully you are doing press worthy things on a regular basis, and you are putting out press releases about it. For example, did you create 12 science project PDFs for schools about fresh and salt water marine ecology for your online aquarium supply store? That is a press worthy event. If you get a guest blog post on a “green” or “Eco-friendly” blog, mention/link to it there too. This is how you make the most of content that cost you a lot of time/money/resources to create. Don’t obsess over whether the press release site passes link equity or not (it usually doesn’t), but think of the links as pointers. If your press release is picked up and your URLs are linked, the search engines will crawl through them. That’s why I strongly recommend including 1 or 2 deep links in a press release.

So what are some takeaways on this post on how to build website trust and authority

• Concentrate on getting links or citations on other websites with higher trust and authority that are legitimate sources for news, information and research.


• Engage in public speaking as often as is feasible. Try to make sure you have a speaker bio with your website listed or linked.


• Look for opportunities to speak with or be interviewed by reporters about your area of expertise. Try to have your website listed and linked whenever possible.


• Look for guest blogging opportunities on quality or upcoming websites.


• Create content that educational facilities would find valuable and let them know about it.


• Create content for educational use and distribute it under creative commons. Make sure to link or mention your domain in the PDF you distribute.


• Do press worthy things on a regular basis and issue press releases about them. Try to include deep links if possible.


• Look for ways to combine these efforts whenever possible so you can get the maximum value.


• Don’t think of this as something requiring a lot of concentrated effort. You need to do these slowly and continually over time for maximum benefit.
