In 1853, McFarland traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire, where he met a fascinating 15-year-old girl named Abby Sage. In summer of 1936, Mom Goldstein received fantastic news that her son and Helen had tied the knot and were honeymooning at Glen Wild, a small, romantic place in the Catskill mountains in upstate San francisco. He changed his surname from McFarland to his mother's maiden name of Sage.
