The Statue of Unity is a large statue of Vallabhbhai Patel - the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent Indian Independence movement. The statue is located in the west Indian state of Gujarat. It is billed to be the world’s tallest statue, at 182 metres height. The Statue of Unity project was first announced in the year 2010 and the construction of the statue started in October 2013 by the company Larsen & Toubro, with the design by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar.
