How Search Engines and Directories Work?
Submission to Search Engine and website
promotion is a subject that you can never stop learning.
The Search Engine or Directory goals is
to give their visitors the best MATCH CONTENTS from the sites in the category
or keyword matches which they are searching.
Each Search Enginee has its own set of
criteria for ranking sites and always keep this a secret for themselves.
The rules will keep changing as to prevent
anyone from matching their FORMULA and thus the ranking of sites become
useless.
The term Search Engine is often used to
refer to both the Spidering and Human powered directories. Search
Engine like www.google.com
use Spidering Engines which is an automated computer program to find your
site and crawl into your site for contents. At your site, they will
read things like your page file names, title, meta tages and the text of
your site. All this information will then be reported back to the
Search Engine's database. The Search Engine are program by the Computer
Engineer to do complex mathematical equations, called alogrithms to figure
out how to RANK your site RELEVANCY to certain search terms.
Spamming is the word used if you try to
artifically boost your site ranking. When you SPAM the Search Engine,
your site will be dropped or BANNED from the Search Engine database.
Web site Directories on the other hand
are a list of sites that are check by real live human beings who will actually
visit your site. Only the Best Sites will be index into the Directories
Categories. Submitting your site to Directories does not mean that
it will be indexed. It will also take quite a while for those successful
site that are accepted into the Directores to appear. An example
of a top directories is www.yahoo.com
and for no apparent reason, many Good Sites may never appear in thier directories.
