How
to fix Search Engine Mistakes that drive traffic away?
by © J. Holness
Every morning I get tons of spam in my
mailbox. I personally don't like it, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
Since I can't seem to stop the flood of unsolicited mail to my poor email
address, I decided to go thru some of it and check the web sites that they
are advertising.
I was amazed to find that most of these
companies that spending millions of dollars to send you unsolicited and
unwanted advertising, just slap together a site that's so poorly designed,
the search engines would NEVER touch them!
So I decided to compile a list of some
of the top five WORST mistakes you can make with your web site, that will
scare away ANY Search Engine.
#5
SCRIPTS, SCRIPTS AND MORE SCRIPTS
One of the most annoying things I see
with some sites is there desire to make a site useful for them in capturing
information, and terrible for the user. Some sites load up their pages
with Java script, CGI, and PHP code. That may make the site wonderful for
them, and maybe for the user, but it make its terrible for a Search Engine
to index.
#4
ABUSE OF FLASH
I like flash. I think its a great program.
I just can't believe how many people make their site entirely with Flash
Objects!
Most search engines will ignore your site
if it's done entirely in flash! Yeah, I know, its cool and all, but what
are you really trying to do here? Make a beautiful site that can't be found
by ANYONE?
I'm not saying you can't have Flash on
your site, just don't make the ENTIRE site Flash.
#3
TERRIBLE WEB HOSTS
This sounds like a simple problem, but
its very common. Just because a web host is giving you a cheap price does
not mean its the most reliable. As the saying goes, "You get what you pay
for". What did you expect for $3.00 a month?
#2
LOUSY KEYWORD SELECTION
This has got to be one of the most critical,
if not THE most critical parts of your site. Keyword selection. It's were
you select the best keywords that user's will use to search for whatever
your sites about. Not what YOU think are the best keywords.
#1
LACK OF SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION KNOW
HOW
Its true. When you decided to launch your
web site, you were trying to get all the other pieces of the puzzle in
place. The shopping cart software had to integrate with your backend services.
Your credit card processes had to be safe and secure. Shipping charges
had to be calculated.
No one said anything about Search Engine
Optimization. Well, the fact is, it's really not as hard as it sounds.
In fact, with just a few basic modifications to your site, you can score
much higher rankings with the Search Engines.
Good luck to you in your Search Engine
Endeavors.
To Your Success!
Sincerely
